North Ossetia starts mourning actions dated to September 2004 terror act
People began coming to School No. 1 in Beslan since early in the morning; and before the first ring at 9:15 a.m. over 2500 persons gathered in the school yard. Taimuraz Mamsurov, head of North Ossetia, Larissa Khabitsova, chair of the parliament, Nikolai Khlyntsov, chairman of the government, and many republic's officials came to commemorate the victims.

Coordination board of Balkar organizations starts preparing Congress of Balkar People
| On August 31, the coordination board (CB) of Balkar NGOs made a decision to convoke a congress for deciding on the issue of self-determination of the Balkar people. Bakhaudin Etezov was unanimously elected to be the chairman of the organizing committee of the congress. The organizing committee includes all the CB members and will invite experts - Balkar historians, economists and lawyers. |

Leonid Roshal is ready to treat the boy beaten by power agents in Dagestan in his clinic
| Doctor Leonid Roshal, Director of the Moscow Scientific-Research Institute of Emergency Children's Surgery and Traumatology, said that his hospital is ready to take Makhmud Ahmedov, 14, beaten by militiamen in Dagestan, for further treatment. Bomb planted in garbage blows up in Sergokalin District of Dagestan and wounds people
